The Henry County Courthouse will be closed on Monday due to impacts from Hurricane Irma.  As a result county trash pickup will be pushed back one day.

Red Cross Shelters opened due to storm

Henry County will open two Red Cross shelters on Sunday.  The First Baptist Church Headland located at 301 East Church Street in Headland and the Abbeville United Methodist Church located at 100 West Kelly Street in Abbeville will open at 4:00pm on Sunday September 10th.

 

Residents living in mobile homes are encouraged to seek out one of these shelters or stay with friends / family in a sturdy home.

Alabama Highway 27 resurfacing to begin Tuesday

ABBEVILLE, Ala. – An Alabama Department of Transportation project on Alabama Highway 27 from the Dale County line to U.S. Highway 431 will begin on Tuesday, July 18, weather permitting.

The project will consist of safety widening, planing, resurfacing, and traffic stripe. Safety widening is a two-foot widening of the shoulders.

There will be lane closures throughout the project. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the construction zone and to plan accordingly as delays are expected.

ALDOT awarded the project to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., out of Dothan, Ala., at a cost of $1,969,880.08 with 55 working days. The project is expected to be complete by the end of September 2017.

County Road 5 resurfacing project

County Road 5 in Headland resurfacing begins Monday in preparation for ALDOT bridge replacement project

HEADLAND, Ala. – On Monday, April 24, weather permitting, crews will begin resurfacing County Road 5 in preparation for an Alabama Department of Transportation project.

While County Road 5 is being paved it will be reduced to one lane with pilot car to direct traffic. Motorists should plan accordingly and use caution while traveling in a work zone.

The Alabama Department of Transportation project will consist of removal and replacement of the bridge over Blackwood Creek on Alabama Highway 173.

Once the County Road 5 resurfacing is complete, crews will begin removal and replacement of the bridge. County Road 5 will be used as a detour during the bridge project.

ALDOT awarded the project to McInnis Construction, LLC., out of Summerdale, Ala., at a cost of $3.48 million with 175 working days. The project is expected to be complete by Summer 2018.

Storm Debris Pickup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abbeville, AL – Due to the severe storm damage that occurred in northeast Henry County on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, the Henry County Road Department will be picking up tree and limb debris.  Residents that live in Sunset Acres, which includes Lakeview Drive, Sunset Drive, Laurel Drive, Magnolia Street, Dogwood Circle, Hillcrest Drive and Holly Drive along with residents that live on Calhoun Drive may place tree and limb debris by the road for pickup.  No household or demolition debris will be picked up.

The road department will make two passes through these areas to pick up tree and limb debris.  The dates for pickup will be the week of April 17th and the week of May 15th.  Any debris left after May 15th will be the responsibility of the property owner.
